The Biggest Grammy Snubs of The Year
Every year, the Grammy nominations bring nothing but drama – but for the 2025 awards, the snubs and surprises are more controversial than ever.
How come? Of the many artists who dominate the charts and the world of music, many of them didn’t even get nominated for this awards
The headline is that Beyoncé has received a total of 11 nominations, making her the most nominated artist in awards history with 99 nominations.
Meanwhile, Taylor Swift has been nominated in the best album category for her latest release The Tortured Poets Department, overtaking Barbra Streisand for the most nominations in the category – seven
But what about the artists, albums and songs that were overlooked at the 2025 Grammys? Here are the five most surprising Grammy snubs of the year.
Ariana Grande
Even though Ariana Grande – or Ariana Grande-Butera as she wants to be called these days – has received a 2025 Grammy nomination, it’s not what you might expect.
The ‘No Tears Left to Cry‘ singer, 31, was nominated for best pop vocals for her album Eternal Sunshine, which was released earlier this year.
Ariana was probably the most snubbed person at this year’s Grammys. She received three nominations this year, but none in the major categories — so no “Album of the Year,” “Song of the Year” or “Record of the Year.” That included zero nominations for “we can’t be friends (wait for your love),” although the song went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
She also received nominations for best pop duo performance and best dance pop recording for his controversial comeback single ‘Yes, And?’
But she was notably absent from this year’s album of the year race, which instead featured big stars like Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter.
@Percolode angrily tweeted: ‘The Grammys will NEVER honor Ariana’s artistry and talent as a singer, songwriter and producer and this is the last straw.’
Ariana has won the best pop vocal and best duo categories before, for her album Sweetener and for the single Rain On Me, with Lady Gaga.
Jack Antonoff
Now, producer extraordinaire Jack Antonoff isn’t going to complain about the lack of nominations at the 2025 Grammy Awards.
He has won numerous awards over the years after becoming one of the biggest pop producers in the music business, working on several successful albums and songs.
Jack’s first Grammy came in 2013 when his band Fun won best new artist and best song for their hit song We Are Young, featuring Janelle Monáe.
He also won best rock song for his work with Annie Clark, better known by her stage name St. John’s. Vincent, and album of the year with Taylor Swift’s Folklore.
And this year he has credits on Taylor’s multi-nominated album The Tortured Poets Department, as well as Sabrina Carpenter’s Platinum-certified Short n’ Sweet.
But an unpleasant surprise came in the big category that Jack has essentially made the last few years – producer of the year (non-classical).
In 2022, 2023 and 2024 he won the award for three consecutive years, but this year it was the turn of Alissia, Dernst ‘D’Mile’ Emile II, Ian Fitchuk, Mustard and Daniel Nigro.
Megan Thee Stallion
Megan Thee Stallion did not receive any nominations, a surprise since the Texas-born rapper has three previous Grammys to her name.
But her self-titled album “Megan” received less than satisfactory reviews: Pitchfork gave it a 6.6 and called it “an uneven album that is so busy giving every type of fan what they want that it might as well be crowdsourced.”
Megan Thee Stallion released three fiery singles: “Cobra,” “Boa,” and “Hiss,” which received widespread acclaim and served as a breakthrough moment for her to overcome the toxic people in her life especially after being shot. The music video for “Mamushi“, the fourth single from the album, went viral on TikTok after its release in August. Although the album received significant discussion and commercial success, it was lost in the major and rap categories.
Tyla
Tyla won her first Grammy last year thanks to her global success “Water“, taking home the inaugural award for best African music performance. This seemed to signal a new era for the genre-bending singer, whose debut album “Tyla” would be released the following month to universal acclaim and rack up more than 1 billion streams.
Instead, the official Grammy website bluntly stated: “This year, Tyla will not be defending her award.”
Of course Tyla would have to be a strong choice to retain her award, but singles like “Truth or Dare” and “Art” would also be worthy contenders in the R&B or pop categories. Even the song of the year for ‘Jump‘ should not be overlooked. Everything is better than “Water“.
Tyla said she was on a mission to prove that an African girl could be “the biggest pop star of her time”. (“The global impact ‘Air’ has had on the world proves that African music can be pop music too,” he said at the VMAs in September.) Unfortunately, the I-told-you moment will have to wait.
Dua Lipa
The triple-Grammy winner released the dance-tastic “Houdini” in November 2023. Considering the Grammy awards period is September 16, 2023 to August 30, 2024, it seems like a long time ago that she released a Tame Impala production. mirror ball twirler, the opener to her third studio album, “Radical Optimism,” which was released in May.
Although “Houdini” nearly reached the Top 10 in the US, subsequent singles “Training Season” and “Illusion” disappointed and the album, a worthy if unspectacular sequel to 2020 breakthrough “Future Nostalgia,” disappeared from the public consciousness and, apparently, in the minds of Grammy voters, who ignored his output completely.
Conclusions
As we know, the grammys or the recording academy do not treat many artists who have many talents well, often they only give awards to artists they like, even a former employee at the awards show said that Ariana was eliminated twice even though she should have won. On those 2 occasions, the first was No Tears Left To Cry and Thank U, Next, it was a shame that these two songs were removed and replaced with songs that didn’t even get many votes.
In fact, we agree that Thank U, Next by Ariana Grande is one of the most unique eras in the music industry. But once again, if you think about it, there is some truth in what the general public says, that they only give awards to their favorite artists even though not all of them have real talent. So what do we think about the Grammys? or should we call it SCAMMY?
